“The beginning of December is a good time to think about making batches of chutney for hampers and to fill up friends’ and family’s stockings. Our sugar free and piquant chutney is perfect for cutting through rich foods and jazzing up the bland. There’s a little chilli along with the other spices in our recipe. You could always split the batch and make one half extra spicy – delicious spread thickly on roasted meats. We’ve used a mixture of cooking and eating apples for a sweet and sour base, then dates and raisins for flavour and texture – experiment with apricots, prunes and cranberries too. Port is not necessary but it is nice… and it is Christmas.”
